The New York Public Library's New Version of eNYPL is a Perfect Fit for Mobile Devices

Mobile Version of eNYPL Provides Easier Browsing and Checkout of the Library's 8,000 eBooks, 3,000 Audio Titles, 400 Music Titles, and 500 Video Titles

The mobile version of eNYPL, located at http://ebooks.nypl.org, makes it easier to browse and check out electronic materials using a wide variety of mobile devices including Blackberrys, web enabled Palms, Windows Mobile, and Smartphones. Patrons can effortlessly navigate through the designed-to-fit website that eliminates the need for excessive scrolling often required to steer through sites not built for smaller screens.

Among the materials in the eNYPL digital collection are over 2,500 Mobipocket eBooks which can be downloaded directly onto handheld devices. Some of the more popular titles available include Michael Crichton’s Next, Parlor Games by Jess Michaels, and On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn. Other eBook formats can also be read on handheld devices and include fiction, romance, how-to, and other best-selling titles such as Freakonomics, The 100 Simple Secrets of Successful People, and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. All digital media is available for free internet downloading 24 hours a day. Titles circulate for 21 days (eNYPL video circulates for seven days) after which they expire and are no longer accessible.

eNYPL, the Library’s electronic collections include a wide array of eBooks and eNYPL audio, music, and video titles. Since November 2004, more than 120,000 items have been borrowed. Currently more than 8,000 eBook titles, 3,000 audiobook titles, 400 music titles, and 500 video titles are available for patrons to borrow. The eNYPL collection is licensed through OverDrive, Inc., a Cleveland-based company that specializes in managing distribution of digitized content utilizing digital rights management (DRM) technology to publishers, retailers, and libraries.
