Swing into the Sixties at The New York Public Library's 2001 Young Lions Benefit on April 26New York, March 12, 2001 -- Inflatable furniture, go-go dancers, and Beatles music will set the scene at The New York Public Library's annual Young Lions cocktail dance benefit on Thursday, April 26. "POP: A Tour Through the Candy-Colored 60's," celebrates the unforgettable and legendary visual artists, writers, musicians, fashion designers, and others from this memorable period. The black tie/go-go boots affair will be led by Co-chairmen, Emily Lyon Allen, Eliza Reed Bolen, Belle Burden Davis, and Wendi Rose. The costume benefit begins at 9 p.m. and ends at 1 a.m.
Artist Gustavo Blanco-Uribe's decor will transform the Celeste Bartos Forum to reflect the mod 1960's that immortalized personalities such as Andy Warhol and Tom Wolfe. Entertainment will be staged by Chi Chi Valenti with costumes by Kitty Boots. Hors d'oeuvres, finger foods, and desserts will be prepared by Creative Edge Parties. Partygoers will be able to take a breather from the go-go dancing and music spun by DJ Johnny Dynell and hang out in the Candy Lounge. The New York Public Library is known for its imaginative fundraisers. Last year, the Young Lions hosted "An Arabian Night" at the Library and in years past, the Young Friends hosted an array of exciting evenings including "The Explorer's Ball," "Alice in Wonderland," "The ldes of March," "Farenheit 451," "The Deep," and "The Beat Generation: A Literary Happening." Proceeds from the benefit go to the Library's Young Lions Fund for International Fiction, toward the purchase of new books. Support for this event has been generously provided by Town & Country which is sponsoring both The New York Public Library Young Lions 2000/2001 season and the 2001 benefit.
