Sunday Hours Restored at the Fordham Library Center in the Bronx

New York, January, 2002 -- Beginning on January 6, 2002, The New York Public Library's Fordham Library Center will once again be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The Sunday hours at  the Fordham Library were eliminated immediately following the 15% reduction to libraries in the city budget modifications announced by former Mayor Giuliani in early November, 2001. The final budget approved by the New York City Council in late December significantly reduced the cut to libraries to 6.5%, enabling NYPL to reinstate some hours that were lost.

"The New York Public Library's priority during these very difficult and uncertain financial times is to remain open seven days a week in at least one library in each of the three boroughs that we serve," said Mary K. Conwell, Director of The Branch Libraries. "Significant reductions in the budget will certainly result in some reductions in service, but libraries remain an essential city service to all New Yorkers. We look forward to working with Mayor Bloomberg and the new City Council to maintain the high quality  of branch libraries in New York City."

The hours at the Fordham Library Center are: Mondays and Wednesdays 10 to 8; Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 to 6; Fridays 12 to 6; Saturdays 10 to 5; and Sundays  1 to 5.

Sunday hours are also available at the Donnell Library Center, 20 West 53rd Street in Manhattan and the St. George Library Center, 5 Central Avenue, on Staten Island.
