Art and Architecture: Architectural Explorations in Books - The New York Work of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
Join SOM partners Roger Duffy, FAIA, and TJ Gottesdiener FAIA, and New York Magazine’s architecture critic, Justin Davidson, in conversation on the occasion of the recent publication of The Architecture of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill a five volume monograph on the firm that encompasses nearly its entire history.
From historic landmarks that changed the face of the city, such as Lever House, 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza and the Pepsi-Cola World Headquarters, to little known masterpieces such as Manhattan House and the Marine Midland Building, to institutional structures for John F. Kennedy International Airport and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, to contemporary explorations such as Time Warner Center, 7 World Trade Center and the Skyscraper Museum, it could be argued that no single firm has had as profound an impact on the built environment of New York City as Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
Architectural Explorations in Books is a new series of engaging programs delving into the critical role that architecture books play in the understanding of contemporary urban developments and structures. The events feature book presentations and discussions by world acclaimed architects, critics, curators, designers, photographers and writers.
