danah boyd is a researcher at Microsoft Research and a fellow at Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet and Society. Her research investigates everyday practices involving social media, with specific attention to youth engagement. She recently co-authored Hanging Out, Messing Around, and Geeking Out: Kids Living and Learning with New Media. HomeworkNYC Apps is a joint project of New York City's three public library systems (Brooklyn Public Library, The New York Public Library, and Queens Library) with the assistance of the New York City Department of Education. The HomeworkNYC Apps project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, which was awarded following a planning project that examined teens and tweens research habits, homework needs, and ways in which they perform homework research online.
