What jobs/positions are available at NYPL?

How do I apply for a job/internship?
To apply for a job and/or an internship, please visit the Search Opportunities page to view and apply for any opportunities at NYPL. In order to be considered for any position, you need to create a candidate profile with a completed application.

I forgot my login/password and/or I am having issues with my login, what do I do?
Please visit the Search Opportunities page and click on the "Retrieve Password" link. If you created a profile with us, using a unique email address, you will receive an email that will direct you to reset your password.

If the system does not recognize your email, or if you don't receive an email to reset your password, your profile does not exist in our system. If you are interested in submitting an application, you will need to create a profile.

How do I change the email address associated with my account/profile?
To update your email address, log into your profile and click on "Update your profile." Please do not create a whole new profile using a new email address. This creates duplicate records.

How do I check the status of my application?
To check the status of your application, log into your profile and click on "View the status of jobs you've applied to."

How do I update/edit my resume/application or cover letter?
To update your resume/ application or cover letter, log into your profile and click on "Update your profile."

How do I include a different cover letter for each job that I apply to?
Unfortunately, you can only include one cover letter with your profile. If you are applying to multiple positions, please make sure your cover letter is general and relevant to all positions you are interested in.

I don't see an opportunity that is a good match or that I am interested in. Can I still submit an application to The New York Public Library?
Yes. On the Search Opportunities page you will see the option to submit your resume for general consideration.

How long does it take for an application to be reviewed?
While it may vary based on volume, it typically takes 1 to 3 weeks to review an application.

Does NYPL sponsor visas for international candidates?
We encourage anyone to apply for positions posted on our website. We rarely sponsor visas; it is dependent upon the job and the candidate pool.

I am interested in working for The New York Public Library. Where are your locations?
The New York Public Library has locations throughout Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx, and a service center in Long Island City. Please visit the Location and Hours page on www.nypl.org to see a full listing of all of our locations.

Will I have to complete a background check to work at The New York Public Library?
Applicants who accept an offer for a salaried position with The New York Public Library are required to undergo a background check and drug screen. Information collected from the background checks are based on the nature of the position and may include some or all of the following: education verification, employment verification, criminal check, Denied Restricted Parties Lists or OFAC lists, fingerprint verification and Department of Motor Vehicle check. Candidates will be notified during the hiring process which checks will be performed. All offers are contingent upon successful completion of the background check and drug screen and results consistent with The New York Public Library's employment policies.

Can I contact the HR Department regarding my application?
Because of the volume of applications the Library receives, the HR Department is unable to answer individual inquiries. Please log into your profile to edit your candidate information, update your application/resume, and view the status of your application for a particular job.
