How do I find what opportunities are available?

You can visit the Search Opportunities page to view and apply for any opportunities at the Library.

How do I apply for a job/internship?

You can visit the Search Opportunities page to view and apply for any opportunities at the Library. In order to apply for a specific position you will need to create a profile with a completed application. 

I forgot my login and/or password, what do I do?

If you forgot your password, please visit the Search Opportunities page and click on the “Retrieve Password” link. You will receive an email that will direct you to reset your password.

How do I check the status of my application?

You are able to check the status of your application by logging into your profile and clicking on “view the status of jobs you've applied to.”

How do I update my resume and/or application?

In order to update your resume and/or application, log in to your profile and click on “update your profile.”

How do I include a different cover letter for each job that I apply to?

Unfortunately at this time you can only include one cover letter with your profile. If you are applying to multiple positions, please make sure your cover letter is general and relevant to all positions you are interested in.

I don’t see an opportunity that is a good match or that I am interested in. Can I still submit an application to The New York Public Library?

Yes. When you are on the Search Opportunities page you will see the option to submit your resume for general consideration.

How long does it take for an application to be reviewed?

It typically takes anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks to review an application.

I am interested in working for The New York Public Library. Where are your locations?

The New York Public Library has locations throughout Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx, and a service center in Long Island City. Please visit the Location and Hours page on www.nypl.org to see a full listing of all of our locations.

Will I have to complete a background check to work at The New York Public Library?

Applicants who accept an offer for a salaried position with The New York Public Library are required to undergo a background check and drug screen. Information collected from the background checks are based on the nature of the position and may include some or all of the following: education verification, employment verification, criminal check, Denied Restricted Parties Lists or OFAC lists, fingerprint verification and Department of Motor Vehicle check. Candidates will be notified during the hiring process which checks will be performed. All offers are contingent upon successful completion of the background check and drug screen and results consistent with The New York Public Library's employment policies.

Can I contact the Office of Staff Services regarding my application?

Because of the volume of applications the Library receives, the Office of Staff Services is unable to answer individual inquiries. It is best to log into your profile where you are able to update your application and view the status of jobs you've applied to.
