Shortcut to Enlightenment: Islam in Today's World

The President's Council Fall Dinner featured special guest Ayaan Hirsi Ali in conversation with Lawrence Wright, author and staff writer for The New Yorker.  Hirsi Ali is the award-winning author of The Caged Virgin and the memoir Infidel, a New York Times best-seller.  In 2005, she was named one of Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People".  Hirsi Ali and Wright discussed the relationship between the West and Islam, and her life in Africa as compared with Europe and the United States.  She also gave the audience a special preview of her forthcoming book, Shortcut to Enlightenment, in which the prophet Muhammad awakes in The New York Public Library and discusses Islam with John Stuart Mill, Frederick Hayek, and Karl Popper.  The more than one hundred and thirty guests enjoyed the program in South Court Auditorium, as well as cocktails and an intimate dinner in Astor Hall.
