The U.S. Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce is a federal government agency dedicated to helping small-to-medium sized New York City manufacturing and service companies develop international markets. Since beginning operations in 1996, the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation (UMEZDC) has helped to revitalize economic life in neighborhoods North of 96th Street including Harlem, East Harlem, and Washington Heights/Inwood. UMEZ
Workforce1 Career Centers are a one-stop shop for employers and jobseekers. Services to businesses may include human resources consulting, job-candidate screening and customized training for employees. For jobseekers services include resume and interview preparation, job-search coaching and access to educational and training opportunities. VLA provides pro bono legal services, mediation, educational programs and advocacy to the arts community. VLA offers a variety services to the arts community including: pro bono representation; mediation; the Art Law Line, a free legal hotline for artists; the VLA Legal Clinic for members; and an ongoing series of workshops and seminars . Washington Heights and Inwood Development Corporation is a local development corporation that offers business development counseling, technical assistance and referral services through its Entrepreneurial Assistance Center, as well as loans through its BO$$ program (separately described). Services provided in Spanish and English.

The Women Presidents' Educational Organization (WPEO) is a regional affiliate of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the nation's premier third party certification organization for women owned businesses. The mission of the WPEO is to create increased access to business opportunities for WBEs. Our programs develop skills and knowledge for WBEs, advocate in the public and private sectors, foster relationships between WBEs, corporations and the government, and provide certification services. WPEO provides full service third party certification to women entrepreneurs in the New York, Northern New Jersey (including Princeton and points North), Southern Connecticut and the Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. The Women's Business Center is funded by the SBA and gives female entrepreneurs one-on-one business coaching. The WBEC provides intensive and free one-on-one business and marketing coaching services. It also provides a 60-hour Business Development training, and business and finance workshops.

The Women's Venture Fund is a non-profit organization that helps women of diverse backgrounds establish thriving businesses in urban communities. Women's Venture Fund offers training, small business loans, and a network of business advisors to help women reach their business goals. By troubleshooting specific challenges and encouraging women to share their experience with other entrepreneurs, WVF is able to expedite the growth of businesses partcipating in our programs.
