The SBA's Bronx Women's Business Resource Center provides individualized, comprehensive guidance to small business owners and future entrepreneurs. WBRC offers one-on-one technical assistance, business workshops, access to capital, computer training, and long-term entrepreneurial training. WBRC is also part of the Business Outreach Center Network and is one of the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program Center (EAP) in New York State. The EAP consists of 60 hours of intensive entrepreneurship training and over 15 hours of hands-on counseling. Services are offered in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. 

Under the Business Outreach Center Network (BOC), the Women’s Business Center is a collection of resources with a focus on women, aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners in the greater New York City area.

With locations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island, the Women’s Business Center strives to provide accessible and equitable opportunities to individuals in New York looking to carve out their own industry spaces. At each resource center,  trained business and professional development counselors offer guidance on a variety of topics from finance and lending to legal advice.

The mission of BOEDC is to strengthen and expand current Bronx-based businesses, as well as to provide incentives to encourage businesses to establish or relocate to The Bronx and maximize employment opportunities for Bronx residents. 

BOEDC provides a wide range of programs and services to its clients, including site selection; financing and financial packaging; technical assistance; special projects; procurement assistance; liaison services with government agencies; information dissemination; workforce development and placement assistance; minority and small business development as well as capacity building.

BOEDC also provides three loan programs for qualified Bronx-based businesses through its Empowerment Zone programs.

Bronx Empowerment Zone Environmental Revolving Loan Fund is designed to promote the use of energy efficient and environmental technologies in the Bronx Empowerment Zone (BEZ). Eligible companies include profit entities, which includes service, retail, and manufacturing businesses operation in the BEZ; non-profit companies located in the BEZ; and housing corporations developing or operating housing in the BEZ. Funds can be used for implementing energy efficient measures, new technology to reduce air pollution, and/or cause energy savings.

The Bronx overall Economic Development Corporation (BOEDC) and The Bronx Borough President’s Office established the Bronx Initiative for Energy and the Environment (BIEE), with the goal of demonstrating pathways to a more efficient and greener Bronx.

SCORE offers free individual counseling by experienced retired and active executives on all aspects of starting and running a small business. In addition, seminars and workshops are offered regularly on a variety of topics including How To Start A Business,International Trade, Business Plans, and How To Get Financing. The Bronx office is open Thursdays ONLY, 10:AM - 4:00PM. Note: Check hours for SCORE offices in Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx under their separate listings.

The Bronx Chamber of Commerce was established to strengthen the economic viability and improve the quality of life for the Bronx. They play an active, significant role in the economic development of the borough, and formed many initiatives and partnerships that have made strides in the crucial fields of education, employment, and health. 

The Bronx Chamber of Commerce organizes and builds coalitions, provides strategic business services, participates in and publish research and data analysis, and supports targeted advocacy efforts that strengthen the business community, and helps to win economic development policies which advance the borough’s economic agenda.

The Bronx Chamber has developed an active civic spirit fostering robust dialogue between business, government, and the civic sector to achieve a more inclusive and vibrant economy. 

Partnerships and individuals/sole proprietorships doing business under a name other than their own need a Doing Business As (DBA) Business Certificate. File a Business Certificate form with the County Clerk's Office in the borough where your business is located. The Brooklyn (Kings County) Hispanic Chamber of Commerce helps foster Brooklyn small business success by helping to process loans, assisting with Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) certification, hosting educational/networking seminars and by assisting aspiring entrepreneurs in getting started by providing extensive and thorough education to those who wish to become small business owners.

 

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced a $50 million investment in life sciences at BioBAT to expand their lab space as part of the city’s LifeSci NYC initiative. NYCEDC and BioBAT officials toured the space that will receive funding to build new labs at BioBAT located at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

BioBAT works to support the advancement of the life science industry in New York City by providing facilities and resources for scientific research and advanced manufacturing at the Brooklyn Army Terminal. BioBAT is helping New York City to attract and retain promising research firms and develop a skilled 21st Century workforce. BioBAT is a partnership created by the Research Foundation for SUNY, on behalf of Downstate Health Sciences University, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
