Learn More: Keep Your Library Open
Library Usage is at Record Levels
Library users have made 17.5 million
in-person visits to New York Public
Library locations over the past year. This is
the greatest ever in a 12-month period and a 12%
increase over last year.
The Library Provides Critical Services for People in Need
Job search services, books
and DVDs (circulation is up
17%), internet service, (saving
users' household costs), programs, classes teaching
new skills, and a positive community
environment are among the crucial resources
the Library provides.
Cuts-Resources in Danger
Proposed City budget cuts are now at $28.2
million. With cuts of this level most library
facilities would go down to a four- or five-day schedule,
with average weekly hours reduced from 52 to
32. The cuts would result in 3.4 million
fewer visits (680,000 from children/young
people) and 5 million fewer circulated materials.
Action- What You Can Do
Write the Mayor, your City
Council Member or your local paper. Donate to the Library or join us on Twitter and Facebook.
