All About Computers: Demystifying Computers, with Abby Stokes

Abby Stokes, author and computer teacher, will demystify computers for beginners, including those who have never touched a computer! She will discuss her new book, Is This Thing On?: A Computer Handbook for Late Bloomers, Technophobes, and the Kicking & Screaming. The digital divide keeps widening with the rapid pace of new innovations and gadgets.The author helps those who are not familiar with computers and the internet understand what everyone is talking about, and how to decide what might work best for them when they first enter the online world. 

She will answer questions such as:

What are the accessibility settings in Windows and in Apple computers for those who are visually impaired?

Why would I want to use a computer? What can it do for me?

How can I keep my identity--and my bank accounts--safe online?

Google? Blogs? Facebook? What, How, and Why?

What works best; e-readers or tablets?

Assistive listening devices for those with a hearing loss will be provided, if you have not tried these out before, be sure to ask for one.
