Careers, Jobs, Small Business Seminars, Job Search Central, Job Searching & Resume Writing: How to Beat the Odds When Using Search Firms & Ads

July 8, 2014

Program Locations:

Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL), Conference Room 018

Chip Conlin discusses how to use search firms and ads effectively in your job search.

Search Firms and Ads (both in print and electronically) are generally the least effective in getting interviews.  However, if used selectively and in combination with other approaches to your job search, they can increase your probability of meeting the right people at the right level toward getting that next job.  In this presentation we will explore:

  • Key points to know when working with search firms and ads
  • How to ask the right questions
  • The benefits as well as the disadvantages of working with search firms and ads
  • How to craft an appropriate cover letter for both approaches

This presentation encourages participation and will draw on cases studies to help you be mindful of the potential minefields when using search firms and answering ads in today’s recruiting environment.
