The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a 300-acre 3.5 million square foot industrial park on the waterfront, currently housing aound 250 small and medium-sized businesses. It offers reasonable rents for prime city real estate ranging from $8 to $20 a square foot, in spaces from 500 to 100,000 square feet. Available spaces are in well-maintained, single and multi-storied buildings with elevator accessibility. Benefits include: self-contained business community with 24-hour security; NY State Empire Zone tax abatements; and an Employment Center to help business find qualified employees.

The BOC network, with offices throughout the City, offers free counseling and referrals. After an initial intake and analysis of an ongoing or prospective business, counselors develop a needs assessment and work with clients to identify and take full advantage of specialized services, programs and financing sources offered by other organizations. BOC counselors also provide essential follow-up, looking for early warnings of problems, particularly in utilizing loans. The South Brooklyn BOC also offers grants for low-income entrepreneurs. Languages spoken include English, Russian, French, Hebrew, and Yiddish. Note: Other BOCS are located in North Brooklyn, Chinatown, Harlem, Hunts Point, Queens, and Staten Island. In addition to standard Empire Zone [EZ] benefits, businesses in this zone receive additional security and maintenance services and human resources development assistance. The zone covers zip codes 11207 and 11208 and borders 11212, 11233 and 11239.
GIDC is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the apparel industry.Over the past twenty years, GIDC has evolved into a multi-tiered service organization providing marketing, buyer referrals, and training and technical assistance to New York apparel manufacturers and workers. GIDC programs offering assistance to management and production personnel include: * Matchmaking service linking brands, retailers and start-up designers with appropriate local factories * Information and referrals regarding public and private incentive programs for local manufacturers * Job referral and placement service * On-site technical assistance with management and engineering issues such as quality control, health and safety, and organization of production * Factory floor and classroom training for worker skills improvement (manual and computer) in both the product development and production phases

ITAC is a 21 year old company that has provided productivity, profitability and growth solutions to over 2000 New York City manufacturing and technology companies. Through its web site, the Department of Labor offers information and services to both employers and job seekers. Employers can post openings for all levels of employees (laborers to executives), which are then available online to job seekers throughout the country. Job seekers can create and maintain their resume, search and apply for jobs, and set up Job Scouts.
