The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation is a non-profit organization founded 32 years ago by a group of people dedicated to ensuring the continued viability of Woodhaven commercial properties and of the Woodhaven community. Today, this work is done in conjunction with the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation, administering the Woodhaven Business Improvement District [founded in 1993]. The Woodhaven Business Improvement District was the first receipient of the prestigious "Barbara Wolff Award For Excellence" from the NY City Department of Business Services in 2000.
The Greenpoint Manufacturing & Design Center [GMDC] is the premier nonprofit industrial developer in New York City. Since its inception in 1992, GMDC has rehabilitated six North Brooklyn Manufacturing buildings for occupancy by small manufacturing enterprises, artisans and artists. Currently GMDC owns and manages five of these properties, which together represent more than half a million square feet of space. These buildings are occupied by more than 100 businesses that together employ more than 500 people. GMDC, in addition to managing, maintaining, and improving its properties, actively looks for still more opportunites to uncover underutilized buildings. Crafting public/private financing, engaging staff in building design and reconstruction, and marketing newly renovated spaces to small businesses, manufacturers, and craftspeople. GMDC can influence how unused properties will be reinvented and push its mixed-use agenda. GMDC seeks to position itself as a national model that could be replicated. Keeping light manufacturing and artisans in American cities is paramount to the preservation of buoyant mixed-use communities.
The Harlem Business Alliance has developed cohesive public/private partnerships to assist existing and emerging businesses, community residents, and youth.The organization serves as an advocate for the preservation and retention of Harlem's business community. HBA sponsors a number of programs and events. Among them: the 125th St. Pilot Retail Incentive Program, the HBA Business Plan Competition, a free Legal Advice Program, and the HBA Merchant Loan Program. One-to-One business counseling services are also available.
H.E.L.P. provides Harlem residents with the financial tools they need to improve their wealth by increasing their financial knowledge, achieving homeownership, and starting or expanding a business. The Entrepreneurship component enhances the understanding of entrepreneurs and small business owners in areas such as marketing, finance, and management. The Harlem Entrepreneurial Fund, LLC is a community revolving loan fund program designed to increase the availability of small business capital loans to enhance small business expansion and help increase jobs in small business enterprises based in the Harlem community. HEF offers three major services to small businesses in the Harlem Community: 1) Loans up to a maximum of $25,000, 2) Consulting Services and 3) Technical assistance. HEF helps businesses develop business plans, analyzes cash flow projections, and assists with strategic planning. HEF, also partners with other programs at Harlem Commonwealth Council, Financial Institutions and other Micro-lenders to provide financial services and financial literacy seminars to individuals and businesses.
The Harlem U. S. Export Assistance Center [USEAC]- serving Upper Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens - is staffed with experienced, professional trade experts who can assist you in exporting your products/services by providing comprehensive counseling and advice, through timely and accurate intelligence regarding foreign markets, by identifying qualified international buyers and representatives, by advocating on your behalf, and by providing comprehensive solutions to whatever challenges that you may encounter.

Since 1988, the Hunts Point Economic Development Corporation (HPEDC) has been under contract with the City of New York to manage the Hunts Point Industrial Park Business Zone. The Hunts Point Industrial Business Zone is home to the largest food distribution center on the east coast. It includes more than 800 businesses and 25,000 employees. HPEDC monitors and coordinates municipal services for the Hunts Point industrial park in partnership with government. HPEDC offers the following services to businesses: area maintenance, ombudsman services, security, real estate assistance, financing, business expansion assistance, waste assessment, and employment services.
Workforce1 Career Centers are a one-stop shop for employers and jobseekers. Services to businesses may include human resources consulting, job-candidate screening and customized training for employees. For jobseekers services include resume and interview preparation, job-search coaching and access to educational and training opportunities. The IBZ Department provides financial assistance in the form of loan packaging services to new and existing businesses that are seeking loans. They provide business owners with an understanding of bank lending practices; assist with filling out the loan application, help gather necessary documents; make sure the financial information on the application and documents makes sense; and help submit a complete package of information to potential funding sources.
