A wide range of technical assistance and advisory services are provided to New York State employers at no charge. The Department has other metro area offices: Harlem-917-493-7200; the Bronx-718-960-7901; Brooklyn-718-780-9201; Queens-718-321-6307 or 718-557-6735; and Staten Island-718-285-8388.
Since 1988, the Hunts Point Economic Development Corporation (HPEDC) has been under contract with the City of New York to manage the Hunts Point Industrial Park Business Zone. The Hunts Point Industrial Business Zone is home to the largest food distribution center on the east coast. It includes more than 800 businesses and 25,000 employees. HPEDC monitors and coordinates municipal services for the Hunts Point industrial park in partnership with government. HPEDC offers the following services to businesses: area maintenance, ombudsman services, security, real estate assistance, financing, business expansion assistance, waste assessment, and employment services.
Workforce1 Career Centers are a one-stop shop for employers and jobseekers. Services to businesses may include human resources consulting, job-candidate screening and customized training for employees. For jobseekers services include resume and interview preparation, job-search coaching and access to educational and training opportunities. The IBZ Department provides financial assistance in the form of loan packaging services to new and existing businesses that are seeking loans. They provide business owners with an understanding of bank lending practices; assist with filling out the loan application, help gather necessary documents; make sure the financial information on the application and documents makes sense; and help submit a complete package of information to potential funding sources.
The IDA Program in Chinatown is dedicated to helping low-income entrepreneurs start their own business by providing seed capital and business training materials. Chinatown BOC (Business Outreach Center) works with U.S. Dept, of Health and Human Services to help grant applicants with their business objectives. Services also provided; Entrepreneurial Assistance Program (EAP), Business counseling, Technical assistance and Micro-financing.
The Industrial and Commercial Abatement Program [ICAP] provides abatements for real property taxes for varying periods up to 25 years. Eligible industrial and commercial buildings must be built, modernized, expanded, or otherwise physically improved.
SoBRO is contracted by the Mayor's Office to oversee and assist industrial/manufacturing businesses with any issue on an as needed basis free of charge. In partnership with NYC Business Solutions Center, NYC Department of Small Business Services SOBRO provides in the following areas- obtainable incentives, real estate opportunities, expansion planning and recruitment. Wholesalers, distributors, warehouses, manufacturers, construction (electrician, restoration, etc), transportation and technology businesses are eligible for the IBZ Program.
NYC Industrial Development Assistance programs provide companies with access to triple tax-exempt bond financing or tax benefits to acquire or create capital assets, such as purchasing real estate, constructing or renovating facilities, and acquiring new equipment. NYCIDA can offer expertise in a variety of bond programs, incentive programs and negotiated incentives.
Since 1993, SIEDC has been responsible for assisting in the utilization of hundreds of acres of vacant industrial land, the creation of 1,800 jobs and over $500 million in capital investment throughout these services. SIEDC provides industrial business assistance services throughout Staten Island. These services are part of the NYC Business Solutions brand of services, which are offered by the NYC Department of Small Business Services to help businesses start, operate and expand in NYC. The services provided at no cost. These services include: ACCESS TO FINANCING, RECRUITMENT, INCENTIVES, TRAINING FUNDS, AND NAVIGATING GOVERNMENT. SIEDC's professional staff are experts on the wealth of benefits and assistance programs available to industrial and manufacturing businesses located in Staten Island. These benefits are designed specifically to encourage the increased improvement of Staten Island's industrial and manufacturing sector, a sector that provides stable, well-paying skilled jobs to Island residents.
