Small Business Services Directory
Renaissance Economic Development Corporation [REDC] provides direct financing and technical assistance services to all the boroughs of New York City, with an emphasis in Chinatown, the Lower East Side, Flushing, Queens and Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and other low-income immigrant neighborhoods in New York City. REDC offers Small Business Loans ranging from $5,000-$100,000. REDC focuses on small and start-up businesses owned by immigrants, minorities or women; that demonstrate significant potential to create jobs for lower-income individuals or minorities; or that lack access to conventional sources of capital. REDC also offers a program where volunteering professionals offer free legal assistance and financial counseling to clients. Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation is the administrator of the NYS Empire Zone Program for the Rockaway peninsula. The Empire Zone Program enables RDRC to offer qualified businesses a package of economic incentives and utility discounts that support the local community
SIBL uses advanced technology to provide businesses with up-to-date information. Visitors to the Library can use its computers to access online business databases and the internet. Wired and wireless internet access is available. SIBL's Electronic Information Center offers hands-on, instructional classes on using the Library's licensed databases. SIBL maintains a full schedule of evening seminars and workshops on business topics. SIBL also sponsors an annual Business Plan Competition. SIBL houses a SCORE office whose experienced business executives offer free advice on how to start and run a small business. Call 212-592-7033 to make an appointment. SCORE at SIBL provides FREE advisory services to small business managers and entreprenuers (startup, preparing a business plan, applying for a business loan, forming a corporation or partnership), one on one appointments and workshops and seminars at low cost. SCORE Counseling Schedule at SIBL are: Monday 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Tuesday thru Thursday from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday and Saturday 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. SCORE offers free individual counseling from experienced retired executives on all aspects of starting and running a small business. In addition, seminars and owrkshops are offered regularly on a variety of topics including "How to Start a Business" and "How to Get Financing." SCORE Chapter 476 has three Staten Island locations: at the Chamber of Commerce on 130 Bay Street (open Wednesdays from 9am-12pm, appointment necessary); at Santander Bank, 1550 Richmond Road (open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-12pm, no appointment necessary); and at the St. George Library, NY Public Library at 5 Central Avenue, 718-442-8560 on Saturday mornings.
