Fifth Avenue Committee, Inc. [FAC] is a community organization in South Brooklyn that advances economic and social justice by building vibrant, diverse communities where residents have genuine opportunities to achieve their goals, as well as the power to shape the community's future.

FAC is a nationally recognized non profit community development corporation formed in 1978 that works to transform the lives of over 5,000 low- and moderare-income New Yorkers annually so that we can all live and work with dignity and respect while making our community more equitable, sustainable, inclusive and just.

To achieve its mission, Fifth avenue Committee develops and manages affordable housing and community facilities, creates economic opportunities and ensures access to economic stability, organizes residents and workers, offers student-centered adult education and combats displacement caused by gentrification.

FirstSource Staffing -- FAC's social purpose business -- provides jobs for low-income indiciduals as they build their skills to prepare for higher  paying employment.

For those needing more intensive one-on-one support, Restoration provides private counseling through our Financial Empowerment Center where we have been helping thousands of Central Brooklyn manage credit, reduce debt and access critical banking services since 2009. The Financial Empowerment Center is open Mondays through Fridays, 10am to 6pm, Tuesdays, 10am to 8pm, and Saturdays 10am to 2pm. Services are offered in English and Spanish. There are no income limitations and conversations with our counselors are entirely free and confidential. Headquartered at Restoration Plaza, the Financial Empowerment Center also operates mobile sites in Brownsville, downtown Brooklyn, Cypress Hills and Bushwick.

The Market provides off-street business locations at affordable rates to former street vendors and micro-entrepreneurs with a strong social, cultural, and economic interest in the local community, who are developing and growing their businesses. The Market also offers a variety of business development services, including basic business classes and ongoing training in merchandising, finance, and technology. Today the Market houses 47 merchants and a seasonal farmers market.

The Center for Entrepreneurship at Fordham University launched the Fordham Foundry in partnership with Small Business Services of the City of New York. Located in a shared office space with NYC Business Solutions on Fordham Road, the Foundry is focused on creating and growing small businesses. The Foundry is an independent, mixed-use business incubator located off-campus that was developed specifically to assist promising entrepreneurs in launching new businesses by providing collaborative workspace, shared office equipment, confidential business consultation, a mentoring program, continuous business education and workshops, and access to funding for qualified early-stage businesses. Membership is available to those in the Fordham community: current students, alumni, faculty and staff from all departments and colleges. In order to qualify for membership, at least one team member must have a connection with Fordham.

GIDC is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the apparel industry.Over the past twenty years, GIDC has evolved into a multi-tiered service organization providing marketing, buyer referrals, and training and technical assistance to New York apparel manufacturers and workers. GIDC programs offering assistance to management and production personnel include: * Matchmaking service linking brands, retailers and start-up designers with appropriate local factories * Information and referrals regarding public and private incentive programs for local manufacturers * Job referral and placement service * On-site technical assistance with management and engineering issues such as quality control, health and safety, and organization of production * Factory floor and classroom training for worker skills improvement (manual and computer) in both the product development and production phases

General Assembly is an urban campus for entrepreneurs seeking to transform industry and culture through technology and design. They provide programming, space, and support services to foster collaborative practices and learning opportunities. General Assembly does this by creating a multi-faceted campus to serve the needs of high-potential entrepreneurs and advance the startup ecosystem in New York. This community Will not only have a place in which to collaborate, but also take advantage of a new kind of learning-by-doing. Through General Assembly's curriculum, entrepreneurs will receive a pragmatic and multi-disciplinary education at the intersection of design, technology, and entrepreneurship.

The Office of Government and General Contracting's mission is to help enhance the effectiveness of small business programs by working with Government Contracting and Business Development (GC/BD) program offices and others to develop policies, regulations, and statutory changes. GCBD helps small businesses achieve success by providing information and procurement assistance. It administers a number of programs that focus on specific business needs: SBIR/STTR Technology; Goaling; Tech-Net; and Sub-Net.

The Graphic Artists Guild is a national labor union that promotes and protects the economic interests of its members. The Guild publishes the popular title, Handbook: Pricing & Ethical Guidelines. The Guild may also be reached at 212-791-3400.

The Greater Hunts Point Chamber of Commerce works for the benefit of more than 700 industrial businesses in Hunts Point, the largest food distribution center in the United States. The GHPCC hosts business seminars and public events aimed at building connections between Hunts Point businesses, and between Hunts Point and other companies interested in doing business with Hunts Point.

The Greater Jamaica Development Corporation {GJDC] supports economic development in the community with a wide range of programs and services. It administers the Jamaica Industrial Business Zone [separately described] and operates the NYC Business Solutions Industrial and Transportation Program for Southwest Queens. GJDC plans public improvements, economic development projects and programs, and works to facilitate development with public and private partners. In addition, GJDC administers several community-based loan funds including the Economic Development Administration Sponsored Loan Fund and the Minority and Women-Owned Business Loan Fund.
