Small Business Services Directory

The Queens Air Services Development Office (ASDO), a nonprofit organization, helps Queens businesses procure contracts with the aviation industry at both JFK and LaGuardia Airports. It maintains a computerized vendor directory and sponsors networking events bringing together the aviation industry, government agencies and prime contractors to meet with Queens vendors and service suppliers. ASDO is funded by the Port Authority of NY and NJ and their airline partners  and administered by the Aviation Development Council. All services are free of charge.

The mission of the Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC) is to create and retain jobs through programming that stabilizes neighborhoods, assists small businesses and promotes tourism and business development. The Queens EDC is a non profit corporation governed by a board of directors representing the many community and business sectors. It is a focal point for economic development efforts in a Borough that encompasses 2.3 million people from every corner of the world. Since 1977 the QEDC has worked with scores of neighborhoods to revitalize their commercial districts by the creation of business organizations and the establishment of business improvement districts. The Entreprenurial Assistance Program (EAP) and the Women
Workforce1 Career Centers are a one-stop shop for employers and jobseekers. Services to businesses may include human resources consulting, job-candidate screening and customized training for employees. For jobseekers services include resume and interview preparation, job-search coaching and access to educational and training opportunities. Renaissance Economic Development Corporation [REDC] provides direct financing and technical assistance services to all the boroughs of New York City, with an emphasis in Chinatown, the Lower East Side, Flushing, Queens and Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and other low-income immigrant neighborhoods in New York City. REDC offers Small Business Loans ranging from $5,000-$100,000. REDC focuses on small and start-up businesses owned by immigrants, minorities or women; that demonstrate significant potential to create jobs for lower-income individuals or minorities; or that lack access to conventional sources of capital. REDC also offers a program where volunteering professionals offer free legal assistance and financial counseling to clients. The RITE Center is a free job training and placement program for job seekers and employers alike. In addition to providing hard skill vocational training programs for job seekers, the RITE Center is a viable resource for small business owners. The RITE Center seeks to forge partnerships, to find employmen that works for the individual, and to ensure the right candidate for the employer. The RITE Center works closely with job seekers to make only the strongest referrals to employers and to small business owners.

SIBL uses advanced technology to provide businesses with up-to-date information. Visitors to the Library can use its computers to access online business databases and the internet. Wired and wireless internet access is available. SIBL's Electronic Information Center offers hands-on, instructional classes on using the Library's licensed databases. SIBL maintains a full schedule of evening seminars and workshops on business topics. SIBL also sponsors an annual Business Plan Competition. SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business, is a not-for-profit volunteer association of business people who provide free confidential business consulting. A SCORE counselor will help you define your needs and evaluate your options. They will meet you at any SCORE office in the five boroughs. Counseling may take one to several sessions; but you will have someone to assist you with business problems. SCORE also regularly offers seminars and workshops on a variety of topics including How To Start A Small Business; International Trade; Business Plans; and How To Get Financing. SCORE's main office is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10am-2pm; Tuesday & Thursday 9am-4pm. No appointment is necessary. Note: There are other SCORE offices throughout the city. SCORE Counseling Schedule at SIBL are: Monday 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Tuesday thru Thursday from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday and Saturday 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
