Each semester Medgar Evers College offers a variety of business courses such as Bookkeeping and Accounting, Non-Profit Management, Real Estate Salesperson, Project Management, Small Business Entrepreneurship, EMT Technician and Pharmacy Tech. We also offer GED Preparation, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, Advanced Photoshop, Introduction to HTML 5, Smart Phone App Workshop, Notary Public, Natural Hair Braiding, TV/FILM Production and more! Course feed range from $70 to $1,190.
The Minority- and Woman-Owned Business Enterprise Program [M/WBE] is designed to ensure the equitable participation of bona fide minority and woman-owned businesses in the New York City procurement process. The M/BWE Program affords certified M/WBE's the opportunity to receive a share of the total dollars spent annually by the City in the procurement of goods, services, and construction. All certified firms will be listed in the City's official Directory of Certified Minority- and Woman-Owned Business Enterprises. Firms must be certified and be at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by a minority and/or a woman, operating for one year, and located in New York City and participating surrounding counties. Firms must also be located in New York City or have a significant tie to New York City's business community.

The National Association of Women Business Owners of New York City (NAWBO-NYC)
NEXCO is an international trade association that sponsors monthly seminars and webinars that provide pertinent and timely information to importers, exporters, freight forwarders, bankers, attorneys, accountants, and any other professional engaged in global trade. NEXCO members have interests in insurance, international banking, freight forwarding, trade law, customs brokerage, trade software and e-commerce. They are large and small, American, foreign and multinational.
NMBC is a networking and referral organization for small women- and minority-owned businesses. It is dedicated to providing business assistance, educational opportunities, seminars, purchasing exchanges, mentoring, business listings, and related services to businesses throughout the tri-sate area and across the nation. Members are listed in a directory that is sent to corporate and government purchasing agents. NMBC also offers general technical assistance and networking events to its members. Annual membership is $375. NMBC is currently offering on a quarterly basis an Entrepreneurial Boot Camp specifically designed for individuals transitioning from employee to entrepreneur and for new entrepreneurs who have been in business less than two (2) years. The Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project provides free legal assistance to low income microentrepreneurs who are interested in starting a business or who have an existing business. Free legal assistance is offered relating to business structure - partnership, sole proprietorship, LLP; reviewing & negotiating commercial leases; protecting trademarks & copyrights; preparing sales & service contracts; employment law matters; reviewing loan documents; and obtaining required NYC, NY State and Federal licenses and registrations. If you are a microentrepreneur or a community-based organization, contact the Project for eligibility requirements.
The New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council (The Council) links certified minority suppliers with corporations through a database of these suppliers and events to showcase their products and services. It also offers seminars for minority-owned firms on marketing, management and other business issues and, for financing needs, refers them to the Business Consortium Fund. The initial certification rate is $200.00. The annual renewal, upon completion of certification, is $175.00. Application, payment of fee, and site visit are required prior to certification. Council-certified suppliers of the local Council are included in the National Minority Supplier Development Council Database.

New York Building Congress [NYBC] is a private association that promotes a common agenda among the design, construction, and real estate industry of New York. New York's building community includes contractors, architects, engineers, unions, real estate managers, developers, and owners. NYBC focuses on economic and infrastructure investment, job creation, and professional exchange.
NYBDC and ESCDC offers both conventional as well as SBA-backed loans from $50,000 to $5,500,000 to small businesses located anywhere within the State. Loan proceeds can be used for partnership buy-outs, real estate acquisition, working capital, inventory, etc. The term of the loan is from 3 to 20 years and the interest is fixed or variable, depending on the circumstances. Three years of personal and business financials, two years of projections [three years of projections for a start-up], a solid business plan, and personal guarantees are required. The application fees range from $250 to $1,200 depending on the size of the loan.
