Small Business Services Directory

Under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), the LaGuardia PTAC provides free procurement technical assistance to enrolled clients who wish to sell their goods and services to the military and other federal, state, and local governments. Bid search and preparation, registration, post award administration, and interpreting acquisition regulation are among the areas in which direct assistance is provided. The PTAC also holds a Business and Procurement Expo in Brooklyn and Queens each year.

The Continuing Education Small Business Management Program presents selected courses in a modular format, permitting students to earn a certificate if desired. Students may select individual courses or complete the certificate program. Contact the Continuing Education Department for additional information on courses and fees. The Local Development Corporation of East New York [LDCENY] serves industrial and commercial businesses in the East New York and Brownsville communities. It manages the East Brooklyn Industrial Business Improvement District. Other programs under its management offers financial incentives to encourage businesses to invest, expand and create more jobs in East NY, and the Women's Business Center. Services are available in Spanish and English.

This program is designed to increase the number of qualified small firms receiving construction and construction-related contracts from the City. Construction firms are required to utilize Locally-Based Enterprise [LBE] companies when they are awarded City prime contracts and will be using sub-contractors. Small construction and construction-related firms are eligible for certification if their average gross receipts do not exceed $2 million. Participating firms are entitled to preference in sub-contracting with general contractors doing business on City projects and are guaranteed 30-day quick payment on City projects. The LICBDC serves as a conduit to an array of business services, grants and incentives. They work closely with the NYC Business Solutions Centers, the NYC Dept. of Small Business Services, NYC Economic Development Corporation, and other City and State agencies. The LIC is one of New York City

The Long Island City Business Development Corporation manages the Long Island City Industrial Business Zone, one of sixteen manufacturing zones in the City. The Zones offer industrial firms free, quick and reliable answers to a broad range of business questions including accessing appropriate financial and business assistance programs, navigating and complying with regulatory requirements, developing workforces and ensuring the neighborhood is well maintained.

Workforce1 Career Centers are a one-stop shop for employers and jobseekers. Services to businesses may include human resources consulting, job-candidate screening and customized training for employees. For jobseekers services include resume and interview preparation, job-search coaching and access to educational and training opportunities. Assists business in location planning, this Office offers statistical information about business activity in the borough. The Borough President's Office also assists businesses in dealing with government agencies, accessing financial incentive programs, and provides referrals. The New York County Clerk accepts for filing (in Room 109B, in the basement at 60 Centre Street) certificates of sole proprietorships, partnerships, and assumed names for businesses conducting business in New York County. The filing fee is $ 100 cash, and certified copies are an additional $ 10 each. The forms of certificate for sole proprietorship and partnership can be purchased at any commercial or legal stationery store, including the candy shop/newsstand in the lobby of the courthouse at 60 Centre Street. Searches of business names and records on file can be made in Room 117B in the basement at 60 Centre Street. If you wish to make a filing for corporate, limited partnership, limited liability partnership, and limited liability corporation status, you can do so only through the Secretary of State in Albany, New York.

Manufacturers of tangible personal property acquiring, developing, renovating or equipping facilities for their own use can access triple tax-exempt bond financing and real estate, mortgage and sales tax reductions.
