Workforce1 Career Centers are a one-stop shop for employers and jobseekers. Services to businesses may include human resources consulting, job-candidate screening and customized training for employees. For jobseekers services include resume and interview preparation, job-search coaching and access to educational and training opportunities. The Brooklyn Public Library Business Library has a reference collection of more than 100,000 volumes, a circulating collection of 30,000 books, internet access, electronic resources, 800 magazines and newspapers, and real estate data. The Business Library provides industry and demographic data, investment information, business directories and free electronic resources available remotely with library card, as well as access to the internet computers. It also houses the Small Business Information Center, which includes sample business plans, books on starting and advancing a business, and free counseling with SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives. The Library regularly hosts educational programs and Wednesday morning tours at 10:15 AM. Brooklyn College Continuing Education offers a wide variety of courses 3 semesters a year - Spring, Summer,and Fall. Programs are available to adults and to young persons through the Young Person's Academy . Courses offered include: Accounting/Bookkeeping, Business, College Prep, Computer Technology and many on-line courses, English as a Second Language, Test Prep and College Preparatory courses, Health Care, Day Care, Child Care, Keyboarding skills, Paralegal and legal secretarial courses and Real Estate Certificate Programs. The Continuing Ed program also offers a Renal Dialysis Technician Training Program and GED courses. Course fees vary. Build Now-NY's Shovel Ready Program is an initiative designed to give New York State an edge by pre-permitting sites for development. Build Now Shovel Ready-NY offers an inventory of locations for a wide range of other business profiles, making them ready for development when the opportunity arises and even creating opportunity. The site profiles include high technology manufacturing; warehouse/distribution/e-commerce centers; and multi-tenant business and technology parks.

The Business Information Center [BIC] provides the latest high-tech hardware, software, and telecommunications to help start-up and expanding businesses. The BIC offers a variety of counseling services and training opportunities. Access is available to a range of print and electronic resources [including the Internet]. The BOC Network, with offices throughout the City, offers free counseling and referrals. After an initial intake and analysis of a prospective or ongoing business, counselors develop a needs assessment and work with clients to identify and take full advantage of appropriate specialized services, programs and financing sources. Affiliated with the Business Outreach Center [BOC] Network and sponsored by the Greater Newark Enterprises Corporation, the Greater Newark Business Outreach Center [BOC] offers a variety of services to small business owners and to entrepreneurs. These services include business plan development, access to financing, marketing, import / export information, entrepreneurial training and licensing and permit information. The City's Business Outreach Team provides business assistance services to all City businesses by deploying agents directly to business locations. Helps businesses resolve problems relating to delivery of government services and business-related issues. Also expanded to include the "Emergency Response Unit," which offers emergency assistance to businesses that are forced to interrupt their operations due to "unavoidable disasters."
Supported by the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone and the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Business Resources and Investments Service Center (BRISC) offers start-up and/or expansion loans to qualified entrepreneurs in Upper Manhattan. $50,000 to $250,000 loan size; Competitive fixed rate; Maximum seven year maturity; and No job creation requirement. BRISC technical assistance programs are available to ensure the sustainability, profitability and growth of small businesses in the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone.
