Accion East provides loans and other support services to businesses throughout New York City's five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey. Loans of $500 - $50,000 are made to individuals or to groups of borrowers at every stage in their business, and can be used for equipment, merchandise, working capital, business expansion and more. All types of businesses are eligible for loans, including home-based ones. Service in Spanish is available.
AWIB is a membership organization offering networking events, as well as conferences and seminars on skills building, business development and a variety of industry-specific topics. Annual membership fees for business owners/entrepreneurs begin at $125.
BO$$ is a microloan program that makes funds available to start-ups and existing businesses in northern Manhattan and the western Bronx with fewer than ten employees, and annual sales of less than $500,000. BO$$ focuses on helping micro-entrepreneurs with limited education, English language, and business expertise. BO$$ Micro Loans range from $400 to $50,000, with an interest rate currently at 9.0% annually. BO$$ also offers one-on-one business counseling, business plan review, and referrals. BCNA, which receives funding through a variety of private and government sources, helps its clients and workshop attendees: obtain microloans to start or expand a business; learn business management skills; understand personal finance and everyday cash management; establish and contribute to a savings account; and purchase a first home or apartment with the help of special government programs. BCNA staff provides services in a variety of languages including: Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, Hindi, African dialects of Bassa & Kru, French & Creole, and Tibetan & Nepali. Services are also available at BCNA’s Queens Office located in JacksonHeights.
The BOC network, with offices throughout the City, offers free counseling and referrals. After an initial intake and analysis of an ongoing or prospective business, counselors develop a needs assessment and work with clients to identify and take full advantage of specialized services, programs and financing sources offered by other organizations. BOC counselors also provide essential follow-up, looking for early warnings of problems, particularly in utilizing loans. The South Brooklyn BOC also offers grants for low-income entrepreneurs. Languages spoken include English, Russian, French, Hebrew, and Yiddish. Note: Other BOCS are located in North Brooklyn, Chinatown, Harlem, Hunts Point, Queens, and Staten Island.
