Street Level

  • Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Circulating Library and Reading Room

The Circulating Library is on the ground floor, just inside the main entrance on Madison Avenue. Here, users browse through current popular business and science periodicals and a 50,000-volume open-shelf collection, accomplish quick reference searches and choose materials for borrowing. The Circulating Library and Reading Room has been made possible by a generous gift from Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman.

Lower Level

  • Elizabeth and Felix Rohatyn Electronic Information Center

The Electronic Information Center provides access to electronic databases licensed by the library. 70 computer workstations offer access to more than 100 databases,  full-text electronic journals, the Internet, and other electronic resources covering the latest in business, industry, and government information.

  • B. Altman Desk

As they enter the lower level, users may stop at the adjacent B. Altman Desk, a multipurpose service desk.  Users may request and pick up books and periodicals from SIBL’s closed stacks from the center delivery service points.

Reference help from librarians is available at the Information Services area of the B. Altman Desk, near the entrance to the Job Search Central room, on the right side of the desk.

  • Harrison S. Kravis Electronic Training Center

Users new to electronic technology, or needing to develop a higher level of skill, attend sessions in the Training Center to receive instruction in the use of SIBL's electronic research tools. The Training Center embodies the Library's democratic mission to make its resources accessible to all people. The Harrison S. Kravis Electronic Training Center has been made possible by a generous gift from RJR Nabisco, Inc.
