Harlem Opera Theater Salute to Black History Month
Program Locations:
Harlem Opera Theater will celebrate Black History Month with a concert to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Rosa Parks' birth.
The performance will feature excerpts from the opera Salvator Rosa. Antonio Carlo Gomes (composer of Salvator Rosa) was the first New World composer whose work was accepted internationally. The only non- European who was successful as an opera composer in Italy, during the "Golden Age of Opera”; he was contemporary to Verdi and Puccini. The concert will conclude with spirituals and songs of protest and freedom.
