A Guide to Searching the Gregory Hines Collection of American Tap Dance
The Gregory Hines Collection of American Tap Dance is part of the Dance Division of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, the largest and most comprehensive archive in the world devoted to the documentation of dance.
In planning for your research visit, identify the items you want to see ahead of time. Use the Library Catalog to search for materials. Four sample searches are provided below:
- Tap dancing as "Subject"
- Hines, Gregory as "Author"
- Hines, Gregory as "Subject"
- Tap City as "Word"
It is also possible to search by performer, company, film title, and other keywords by using the Keyword search.
When you visit the Dance Division, you can also use a different catalog, Dance on Disc, not available on the Internet, but featuring a very effective keyword search. Librarians at the Dance Division will show you how it works.
