A screening of Jocelyn Ajami's Queen of the Gypsies, featuring Carmen Amaya. A discussion with La Meira and Ms. Adjami will follow.

 

QUEEN OF THE GYPSIES, A Portrait of Carmen Amaya, is a feature-length video documentary by award-winning filmmaker Jocelyn Ajami. This biography is the first American film portrait of Gypsydance legend Carmen Amaya (1913-1963), and the most comprehensive video portrait of Carmen Amaya in the world. to date.
 
The film includes Hollywood film footage and dance clips, home movie clips, countless vintage photographs, and interviews with family members, company dancers, and scholars. Original music by Sabicas, Carmen Amaya, and Domingo Alvarado. 

 

 

 
This program is presented in conjunction with the exhibition, 100 Years of Flamenco in NYC, on display in the Vincent Astor Gallery from March 12 through August 3, 2013.
