Using the Schwarzman Building

Hours of service and information regarding access to and use of Library materials

The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building is committed to enabling readers with physical disabilities to make use of the Library's resources.

You may stream or download audio recordings, in mp3 format, from past lectures from the scholars and writers of The New York Public Library's Research Study Rooms (the Wertheim Study and the Allen Room).

A small meeting room is available free of charge at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building for groups of 2-15 people working on a project. Time slots are 1 or 2 hours.

The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building provides a no-fee checkroom as a service to readers and visitors. It is located at the 42nd Street entrance.

Docent-led tours are an excellent way to see highlights of The New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. The Library offers tours of the building as well as exhibitions. Free docent-guided tours for walk-in visitors are available.

All reading rooms at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building have free public access computers providing varied access to library catalogs and selected electronic databases. Some reading rooms provide computers with access to specialized databases. Internet access is available in several rooms on the third floor of the Library.

The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building offers as a free service the opportunity to connect your laptop to the Internet via both wireless and the Library's Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN).

You can have items from the Schwarzman Building's closed stacks or off-site storage waiting for you when you arrive at the Library, just e-mail your requests in advance.
