Humanities, Social Sciences and General Interest periodicals are housed in the Periodicals Section, including the following subjects:

  • Consumer Affairs
  • Geography
  • History
  • Literature
  • News and Current Events
  • Philosophy
  • Psychology
  • Religion
  • Sports & Games
  • Women's Studies

The Periodical Room maintains a collection of 75 reference sources in print including:

  • Ulrich’s International Periodical Directory
  • Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcasts Media
  • Standard Periodical Directory
  • Benn's Media Directory

These reference books may be requested at the public service desk.

A collection of printed indexes are also maintained and housed in Room 108. Titles such as The Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature, Alternative Press Index, Art Index, Book Review Index and Social Sciences Index are among the printed indexes kept on open shelves in the reading room. These are kept for 2-3 years before the Annual Cumulations become available in the General Research Division.

In addition, access to hundreds of online databases are available through the Library's Electronic Resources Menu, which is provided at workstations throughout the Periodicals Division.
