Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play, this film is set in a Catholic school in New York in 1964. The principal, Sister Aloysius, feels certain that a priest is sexually abusing one of her pupils, who also happens to be the school's first black student. The priest denies the charges and it becomes her word against his in this study of religion, morality and authority.
