Meet the Author @NYPL presents Michael Scott Moore

October 17, 2011

Program Locations:

Columbus Library

Michael Scott Moore is a European correspondent for Miller-McCune magazine and the author of a novel, Too Much of Nothing. He’s written on politics and travel for publications such as The Atlantic Monthly, Slate, Financial Times, and Spiegel Online International, where he also serves as editor-at-large. He lives in Berlin, Germany–-oddly, for a surfer—and runs a Web site at radiofreemike.com.

Not since William Finnegan’s definitive New Yorker piece on the sport has there been a more compelling and comprehensive look into surfing’s culture. In SWEETNESS AND BLOOD: How Surfing Spread From Hawaii and California to the Rest of the World, With Some Unexpected Results, Michael Scott Moore, masterfully narrates an engaging travel adventure which transports readers to eight unlikely surfing countries, uncovering the sometimes “sweet”, sometimes “bloody” forces that shaped the sport.

Forget what you think you know about surfing and prepare to embark on a fascinating journey that reveals the history behind the sport’s unlikely spread across the globe and the remarkable cultural imprint it has left along the way. Michael Scott Moore will be discussing his new book that's a riveting travelogue and answering questions from the audience. Come and meet the author!
