Cloisonné: Chinese Enamels - art lecture & activity by Bard Graduate Center: Decorative Arts, Design History, Material Culture

Cloisonné is an ancient form of decoration in which colored glass is fused by high heat to a metal surface, usually copper. This two-hour presentation by an experienced educator from Bard Graduate Center includes a talk on this ancient art, exploration of cloisonné boxes and bowls, Chinese silks, enamel pigments, and photographs of designs on a wide range of objects. Participants will also draw their own good luck symbols inspired by Chinese examples.
