Julia Chang

Julia Chang, who has been with The New York Public Library since 1997, is the Supervising Librarian for Children’s Programs. As such, she is responsible for developing and coordinating cultural and educational children’s programming for each of the Library’s 89 branches. Since assuming her current position nine years ago, she has broadened the scope of programming while maintaining the highest quality and introducing new and cutting-edge offerings for children. Julia’s broad portfolio of responsibilities includes oversight of programs for children, enhancement of community relations at selected branches, and introducing and liaising with community organizations who partner with the Library. She has implemented such projects as the Literacy Enrichment Afterschool Program Grant (LEAP), which was broadly used at all branches to attract children after school and to assure their continuing interest by enriching their educational experience; helped develop innovative staff training programs; and assisted in the launching of ROAR!, the new children’s events publication.

"Throughout my younger years I enjoyed using the Library but never dreamed that I would be a part of it as an adult. I have been given the privilege of developing programs at the more than 85 branches of the Library, working with our dedicated Children’s Librarians, and have been delighted to have advanced pleasure and knowledge for so many children."
