Included in this searchable database are programs which offer business advice, loans, grants, location assistance, and a wide range of other services for small businesses throughout the city — often at no cost or for a low fee.
PTAC's primary responsibility is to counsel and advice businesses regarding government procurement opportunities. Services offered include: bid notification for open federal, state and local agencies; assistance with completion of certifications and registrations such as HUB Zone, 8(a), Duns & Bradstreet, CCR; one on one assistance with completion of NYC or NYS M/WBE (Minority/Women Business Enterprise) Certification applications; Assistance with bid preparation for city, state and federal opportunities; individual counseling on all contacting needs; business development workshops and seminars; outreach and networking opportunities and annual business Opportunities Expo.
Professional Women In Construction (PWC)is a non-profit member association for entrepreneurs, professionals and managers (women & men) and companies and public agencies engaged in construction and allied industries. Mission: to advance the status of business and professional women in a male-dominated industry and educate the public regarding women's achievements. The organization offers business networking events, a newsletter, trade show & recruitment fair, referrals, workshops in trends of the industry and certification information for woman and minority-owned firms. Qualitas of Life is a non-profit organization that provides financial education to Hispanic immigrant families in New York. Qualitas of Life facilitates immigrants' access to financial literacy programs and financial services. Qualitas' financial education workshops began in 2007 and they have expanded to teach workshops in community centers in all five boroughs of New York City.
The Queens Air Services Development Office (ASDO), a nonprofit organization, helps Queens businesses procure contracts with the aviation industry at both JFK and LaGuardia Airports. It maintains a computerized vendor directory and sponsors networking events bringing together the aviation industry, government agencies and prime contractors to meet with Queens vendors and service suppliers. ASDO is funded by the Port Authority of NY and NJ and their airline partners and administered by the Aviation Development Council. All services are free of charge.
This office supports economic development throughout the borough through a variety of programs and initiatives. To assist businesses with location planning, it provides data on neighborhoods in the borough. Information on economic incentive programs is also available. The office assists business in dealing with government agencies and provides referrals to specialized services.
The Queens Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit business assistance membership organization. It offers networking events, forums with government officials, educational workshops and services, and a health insurance plan for small businesses. Queens College offers a variety of courses for small businesses. These include: How to Start a Business, Legal Aspects of Running a Business, Contracts and Grants, and Quickbooks Pro 2001. Several business certificates are awarded: Business Development, Office Administrative Assistant, Bookkeeping, and Payroll Professional. There is a fee for each course.
