Manhattan Research Library Initiative (MaRLI) Application Form

In order to increase accessibility to our combined collections, the libraries of Columbia University, New York University and the New York Public Library are offering eligible users the opportunity to borrow select materials from each of the three partner libraries based on the following criteria:

  • NYPL cardholder in good standing (please resolve any blocks or delinquencies on your library account before applying)
  • Demonstration that resources available through the home institution have been exhausted
  • Demonstration of a sustained need for access to the resources of the participating libraries and collections
  • Requested materials are deemed appropriate for circulation

If you are unsure whether MaRLI is appropriate for your research needs, please visit or contact any of our research libraries to discuss the program.

Interlibrary Loan or a METRO referral may serve your needs if you only require access to one item for a limited period of time, or if you require access to materials not held by NYPL, NYU, or Columbia.

If you are currently affiliated with NYPL through one of our Scholar programs, please do not apply for MaRLI privileges using this form. Speak to the liasion for your program or fellowship for information.

To learn more about how the library uses information you provide, please read our privacy policy.

Please note: As of August 15, 2014, we are no longer accepting applications for MaRLI privileges for 2013-14. The application will reopen on September 2 for new applicants and current participants who wish to renew privileges for the 2014-15 academic year.
