More Books! More Time! No More Maxing Out Your Personal NYPL Card!
We are pleased to invite our colleagues in education to sign up for our new Educator Card. This card is offered exclusively to New York City teachers and home schooling parents borrowing materials to supplement their curriculum.
This new program makes it easier for educators to borrow materials for use in their classrooms. Currently the new Educator cards have the following privileges:
- Borrow up to 100 items!
- Put up to 50 items on hold!
- A 60 day* loan period for most print materials! (Standard (lower) limits apply to new books, express books, DVDs and other selected items)
More privileges to come based on early adopter (that's you!) feedback! Get it, try it, tell us what else you need!
How to get one:
Print the Educator Card application here. (PDF) Bring the application to your local NYPL branch along with a request for the card on your school's letterhead (you can write the request yourself) or documentation such as the “Compliance Letter” from the Central Office of Home Schooling in the NYC Department of Education if you are a home schooling parent. ***Email address is required
Renew your Educator Card each August
Educators are also encouraged to obtain a traditional library card for personal use in addition to their Educator Card.
Important Note About Your Privacy: Please note that NYPL is issuing Educator Cards as part of a new program designed to track the use of library materials by teachers & schools in New York City. As part of this program, NYPL will be collecting more data about the materials checked out with these
cards than it does with our traditional library cards. Please read the full explanation included with the Educator Card application.
*In order to ensure that our resources are made available to as many users as possible, no renewals are allowed beyond the 60 day loan period. Standard overdue charges apply.
We hope you enjoy this new service!
