Louise Shea

Vice President of Human Resources

Louise Shea was appointed Vice President of Human Resources at The New York Public Library in 2008, and in a relatively short time has redesigned the Library's HR services to support the strategic direction of the institution and its mission for the future. She has created centers of expertise devoted to staff and their professional development, and has positioned the Human Resources department as a strategic partner to the unique and varied consituencies within The New York Public Library.

Prior to joining NYPL, Shea was Vice President of Human Resources at the International Rescue Committee, a humanitarian organization, where she built a department serving a global workforce of 10,000 employees, developing areas in recruitment, employee relations, and compensation and benefits, as well as in learning and development. As Acting Vice President of Human Resources at CARE, the international humanitarian organization, Shea managed the relocation of the non-profit organization from New York City to Atlanta, while developing a strategic structure to support the organization's new initiatives. Shea has also held management positions at Hipp Waters, the American Institute for Foreign Study, and Save the Children.

Shea is a graduate of Syracuse University.
