Photocopies or other reproductions can be furnished only under certain conditions, if they will be used solely for private study, scholarship or research. Use of the reproduction for other purposes may make the user liable for copyright infringement. NYPL Express reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the United States Copyright Law.

NYPL Express is registered with, and pays royalties on a per article basis, to the Copyright Clearance Center.

In some cases, especially for articles from science journals, the copyright fee will be a significant component in the final price of a document.
