To facilitate the Library's outreach efforts to NYC schools, we are pleased to offer expanded access to library resources and services through our Educator Cards. This card, available to qualifying Educators employed at K-12 schools in the 5 boroughs of NYC and intended for professional use only, offers significantly more privileges than those available on your personal card.
Note that this is a different offering than our partnership with NYC schools.

Your new card includes a variety of unique privileges. Educator cardholders may:
- Borrow up to 100 items*

How do I get one?
Request an application for an Educator Card at any New York Public Library location in the Bronx, Manhattan or Staten Island, or print out a downloadable form here. You must also provide a letter of request on school letterhead or other proof of current employment as a NYC Educator and be prepared to present our required forms of identification. Once registered, your card will be valid through June 30th of the coming year. To renew your privileges in the fall, present the same documentation provided for your initial registration.
My colleagues at other schools are participating in your DOE pilot. How can my school get involved?
Participation in the pilot is arranged through the DOE's Office of Library Services. For information on the potential participation of your school in the future, ask your School Librarian or Principal to contact that office directly.
What about my students?
We encourage you to contact your neighborhood library location to arrange a class visit. You can come to us or we will come to you. Our staff can register students for new or replacement library cards, discuss about the range of services available with your card, demonstrate our web site and online catalog and recommend some great books for students of all ages and reading levels.
I work at a day care center. Do I qualify?
Yes! Certified day care center staff may apply for a NYC Educator card. Proof of certification must be provided at the time of registration/renewal.
I work as a home schooler. Do I qualify?
Yes! You must provide current & valid certification of your status as a home schooler to apply for a NYC Educator card. Proof of certification must be provided at the time of registration/renewal.
Tell me more about what I can do with your online catalog!
Key to our outreach efforts to Educators and students throughout the 5 boroughs is our online ctalog. This catalog allows you to learn not only what resources are available at all NYPL locations, but to share those resources with your students and colleagues. You can access the catalog here.
First time users of the catalog will be required to register for an account.
Once logged in, in addition to searching the catalog and requesting materials for delivery to your nearest NYPL location, you can create content including reviews, book lists and preferred searches. Share this content with your students and colleagues through the catalog itself by encouraging them to "follow" your username or post your creations to a variety of social media outlets.
What else do I need to know?
Your card comes with many privileges unique to your status as an Educator employed at a participating pilot school and is intended for professional use only. If you do not already have a NYPL card for your personal use, we encourage you to apply at any NYPL location and ask staff to link the two cards for your convenience.
