Make NYPL Your Partner for Classroom Success

The New York Public Library’s Division of Teaching & Learning offers programs and services that connect students and teachers with engaging and unique resources.

Many resources are available digitally for educators and students to use from home or school. Click here for online Tools for Teaching.

We offer a variety of Professional development programs for educators, that provide direct contact with our world-class collections, scholars, research librarians, curators, and instructors. Experiences are designed to engage teachers as creative, independent thinkers and participants in an ongoing life of the mind.

Book talks, library tours, exhibition explorations and research workshops are designed to engage pre K-college students with the joy of reading, the resources available to them through NYPL and the thinking skills needed to succeed with their academic goals. If you would like to arrange a free digital research workshop at your school for your students or your colleagues, please contact us at teachandlearn@nypl.org with your contact information and a requested date and time. Research workshops can be built to fit your class periods. (A computer with internet connection and a projector is required and computers for participants to follow along on are optimal. Available to sites within NYC.)

Start here to arrange a visit to your local library in The Bronx, Manhattan, or Staten Island or to one of the other research libraries. Your local library staff is happy to work with you to support your classroom goals.

We welcome visitors from anywhere in the world. Most programs are free!

What teachers are saying:

  • All of us at P.S. 102 have appreciated your visits these past years. The children are spellbound listening to your book-talks and interactive stories.

  • I feel the workshops at the NYPL always deliver. My knowledge and motivation are increased by recieving relevant information and skills.

  • It made me feel like the NYPL actually respects what we do as teachers. You're on the right track with the kind of support we both need and can actually use.

  • Your commitment to our students and our library is outstanding. We have established a semi-annual program at High School of Fashion where Young Adult Librarians from the NYPL visit our schools, once each semester, to talk about exciting books, and special Library programs for teens.… We are instilling a lifelong love of reading and improving reading skills.

The New York Public Library thanks The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation for their generous support of Teaching and Learning Programs at NYPL.
