Between the Lines: Shaka Senghor and John Forte

Event Details

Shaka Senghor and John Forté will be in conversation about America’s prison system.

Senghor is a New York Times bestselling writer who chronicles child abuse, violence, depression, life on the streets as a drug dealer, and his murder conviction in his memoir Writing My Wrongs. During his 19-year sentence, which included seven years of solitary confinement, he became passionate about education and motivated to reform America’s industrial prison complex. His story is one of self-liberation and a first-account narrative about the horrors of the prison system.

Senghor will be in conversation with a Grammy-nominated artist, songwriter and producer, and activist. Few understand second chances better than Forté, who was a quintessential rising star who landed in a federal penitentiary on drug charges. Forté refused a plea bargain and maintained his innocence. His 14-year sentence was commuted by President George W. Bush.

A book signing will follow.
