LIVE from NYPL: Seymour Hersh | Chris Hedges

Award-winning journalist Seymour Hersh has been at the fore of many of this country’s most important investigative stories. His controversial exposé, The Killing of Osama bin Laden, challenged the official American narrative about the assassination. In a new book of the same title, Hersh pushes his investigation further. Joined by journalist and author Chris Hedges,  he comes to LIVE to discuss backlash and backstory. 

SEYMOUR HERSH established himself at the forefront of investigative journalism with an exposé of the massacre in My Lai, Vietnam, for which he won a Pulitzer Prize. Since then he has uncovered stories that Washington would prefer remained hidden. From Kissinger’s role in the Nixon Government to the exposé of the military torture regime at Abu Ghraib prison, Hersh has consistently uncovered the uncomfortable truth behind US power in the world. He has won the George Polk Award five times, the National Magazine Award for Public Interest twice, the Pulitzer Prize for Journalism, the L A Times Book Prize, and the National Book Critics Circle Award. He writes regularly for The New Yorker and the London Review of Books.

CHRIS HEDGES, the former Middle East Bureau Chief for The New York Times, spent two decades overseas – seven of them in the Middle East.  He also reported from Central America, Africa and the Balkans.  He was based in Paris after the attacks of 9/11 where he covered Al Qaeda in Europe and the Middle East.  He was part of a team of reporters at The New York Times awarded the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for their reporting on global terrorism. Hedges writes a weekly column for the online magazine Truthdig and hosts the weekly teleSur show “Days of Revolt.” He is the author of eleven books including the New York Times best sellers War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning, American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America and Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt, which he co-wrote with the cartoonist Joe Sacco.  His latest book is Wages of Rebellion: The Moral Imperative of Revolt.
