Event Details

A regular discussion of great children's books in a fun and informal setting.  For kids between the ages of 10-12 reading on a 5th-6th grade reading level.

Over the next several months, the group will be looking at books that are in the running to possibly win the 2016 Newbery Medal. The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. The Newbery Medal will be announced on Monday, January 11, 2016.

Here are five books that have been getting some Newbery buzz. We have a few copies on hand in the Children's Center, but please feel free to pick up a copies at your local branch.  We are hoping that kids will read as many "buzz" books as possible and come to meetings prepare to share their comments, both positive and negative.  At our meeting on Friday, January 8, the group will have a mock Newbery vote to select our winner.
