First Fridays: House Edition

Date and Time
August 7, 2015
Event Details

In honor of trailblazer Larry Levan, August First Fridays at the Schomburg will jam all night long to house music! Levan was a pioneer of house music in New York City, best known for his decade-long residency at the popular New York City night club, Paradise Garage. With sets referred to by his cult following as “Saturday Mass,” Levan experimented with drum machines and synthesizers, ushering in an electronic, post-disco sound that jumpstarted the house music movement.

First Fridays attendees are encouraged to check out our wonderful Exhibitions, “Curators’ Choice: Black Life Matters,” and the “The 75th Anniversary of the American Negro Theatre”, sign up for a Schomburg membership, and visit our Gift Shop—while networking and dancing the night away! Our Host for the Night will be Dhalimu from Dhali's Closet, and your deejays for the night will be DJ MASAI in the Langston Hughes Lobby and DJ Frankie Paradise in the courtyard.

See you there!
