Boot Camp program for Visual Arts Students, 2015

Event Details

The Boot Camp is a program of the NYC Department of Education, Office of Special Projects, and Lincoln Center Education.  For the second summer, entering 8th grade students in Music, Dance, Theater and Visual Arts spend 2 weeks working on the auditions and portfolio presentations, as well as technique and repertory, to prepare for applications to the specialized high school programs in the arts.

The 32 visual arts students, with teachers from NYC DofE and Studio in a School,  had an intesive workshop in Head Shots, learning abut the histories of photography and engraving and developing critical vocabulary for describing portraits.   In addition, they had an orientation tour of the material in the Circulating and Research Collections.  In the Geoffrey Holder exhibition , they focused on his found object collages from his later years, analyzing his use of color and textures.
