Wendy Lesser, a writer and the editor of The Threepenny Review, and Hermione Lee, whose previous books include biographies of Virginia Woolf and Edith Wharton, discuss Lee’s new biography of the Booker-Prize winning English writer Penelope Fitzgerald.

The founding editor of The Threepenny Review, Wendy Lesser is the author of ten books, including Music for Silenced Voices: Shostakovitch and his Fifteen Quartets; Why I Read: The Serious Pleasure of Books; and the novel The Pagoda in the Garden. She is a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences, and was a fellow at the Cullman Center in 2005-2006.

Hermione Lee’s highly acclaimed books include biographies of Elizabeth Bowen, Philip Roth, Willa Cather, Virginia Woolf, and Edith Wharton. The President of Wolfson College at Oxford, Lee is a fellow of the British Academy and of the Royal Society of Literature. She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to literary scholarship. Lee worked on her Wharton book as a fellow at the Cullman Center in 2004-2005.
