Documentary Film Festival: The Cove

June 23, 2014

Program Locations:

The Cove, PG 13, 90 min, 2009

In the 1960s, Richard O'Barry enjoyed a lucrative career as a specialized animal trainer; he captured the five dolphins that were used in the popular television series Flipper, and taught them the tricks and special commands they used on the show. Four decades later, O'Barry has renounced his former life as a trainer and become an animal rights activist, speaking out against the hunting of aquatic mammals and keeping them in captivity.

Defined as a film that presents a factual record, the documentary has long been a method for people to bring their stories and that of others to the forefront of our society. For this reason Epiphany will be hosting a month long look at some great documentaries old and new and celebrating the varied experiences they present.
