This visual presentation explores the vaudeville origins of the Marx Brothers, introducing the audience to the many performers who inspired them and paved the way for their unique style of performance.  Among their mentors were Weber & Fields, the Avon Comedy Four, Smith and Dale, and the team of Gallagher and Shean (one whom was the Marx Brothers’ uncle, Al Shean).  The talk will also feature many comedians and teams who were contemporaries of the Marx Brothers in films including Clarke and McCullough, Wheeler and Woolsey, Eddie Cantor, and others.
