The People Who Get You Through -- Navigating Love and Friendship in High School

It is nearly impossible to make it through high school on your own.  Each of these authors’ novels shows how important a support system – or just one supportive friend or significant other – can be … and how complicated this relationship can be.  This will be a conversation about drawing those relationships – where the characters come from, and what you do with them when they are on the page.

Sorry You’re Lost – Writing About Grief and Loss

It is not easy to write about grief, loss, and the (oftentimes partial) recovery process, especially when the characters are teenagers unaccustomed to having death and loss in their lives.  Each author will read a short (three to four minutes) passage from his or her new novel that distills the protagonist’s feelings of loss or grief, and then will converse about the challenges of writing about the topic for a YA audience.

Literary Matchmaking, Round One

All of the authors have been told what this entails.  The rest of you will have to show up to find out.
