Spoken Word with Bob McNeil

February 22, 2014

Program Locations:

Bob McNeil will present A Versified Voyage with the assistance of Brother Aswad, a talented guitarist and former star of Rent. Bob McNeil, a spoken word artist, will share poems and songs that celebrate Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Malcom X, Gil Scott-Heron and many others.

Bob McNeil recalls, at the age of six, A Child’s Garden of Verses planted a seed in his mental soil. Now, since the Autumn of Adulthood has descended upon him, Mr. McNeil feels his harvest came in the form of a position as Poetry Editor for BLACFAX and the publication of his two books, Secular Sacraments, as well as The Nubian Gallery, A Poetry Anthology. Both of the poetic compendiums can be found in various libraries, universities and bookstores. Bob McNeil was influenced by Whitmanesque exuberance and the Imagists. Furthermore, even after all of these years of being a professional illustrator, actor and writer, he still hopes to express and address the needs of the human mosaic. Besides writing professionally, Bob McNeil is an orator of some renown. For example, he had the pleasure of performing on W.B.A.I., an F.M. Station. To date, he was the Featured Poet at numerous libraries throughout the tri-state area. He looks forward to performing again with his spoken word and music group in the future.
