Tamara Gonzales pushes paint to the optical extreme with her unique process of spray painting through found lace, tablecloths, doilies, and curtains. Vibrant and witty, layered and textured, she combines large gesture with tight pattern to create compositions that at once mimic the grand heroic gestures of the postwar painters, while capturing all-over free spirit found in the graffiti that appears daily on the streets near her Bushwick studio. Gonzales studied at Parsons School of Design in New York. Her work has been exhibited at many venues including Derek Eller Gallery, New York; Martos Gallery, New York; Norte Maar, Brooklyn; The Journal Gallery, Brooklyn; and Daniel Weinberg Gallery, Los Angeles.

Represented by Pocket Utopia in New York City, she has received numerous grants, awards and residencies, including a grant from Pollock Krasner Foundation. She divides her time between New York, Washington, DC; and her hometown in New England, where she is currently teaching at Brown University.

Initiated and organized by Arezoo Moseni in 2004, Artist Dialogues Series provide an open forum for understanding and appreciation of contemporary art. Artists are paired with critics, curators, gallerists, writers or other artists to converse about art and the potential of exploring new ideas.
