Roots and Stars: Prayer Spears
Program Locations:
Join us as we explore multiple expressions of one of the highest mandates of faith: to fight for justice and build community. Professor Kwesi Amoa discusses the establishment and use of the Akan Cultural Center Onipa Abusia in Queens New York. Choreographer, Sduduzo Ka-Mbili, describes the efforts of his Sangoma father and Christian mother to defeat apartheid and build community in a New South Africa.
Roots and Stars is CCCADI's salon series dedicating to illuminating black spiritual genius and the soul of the black world as expressed in art, the sacred, philosophy, and the ritual of daily life. This year’s Roots and Stars series is presented in partnership with the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
